SEA OF SNOW (f, 2, Distorted Humor–Snow Ballerina {GB}, by Sadler’s Wells), who had scored over this course and distance on debut a week previously, showed early dash to race in a close-up second as the 1-5 favourite Legendary Lunch (Ire) (Dragon Pulse {Ire}) raced keenly in front. Harrying him as the heat was turned on inside the last two furlongs, the 5-1 second favourite gained the edge with a furlong remaining and stayed on to score by a half length despite drifting left. “She was going away to win her race real easy and then just pricked her ears in front and shut down,” jockey Franny Norton commented. “She is only small, but she is tough and hard like me and shouldn’t be underestimated.” The dam, who also has a yearling filly by Street Cry (Ire), is a half-sister to the brilliant unbeaten Derby, King George and Arc hero Lammtarra, being out of the promoted 1989 G1 Epsom Oaks winner Snow Bride (Blushing Groom {Fr}). Another of her progeny Abhisheka (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells) has produced the G1 Prix Jean Prat winner Aesop’s Fables, also by Distorted Humor, while Snow Ballerina’s third dam is the champion Awaasif. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $20,561.
